Mission Statement

We are an active participant in the process of communicating knoowledge within Wageningen UR. We acquire and select scientific information, safe it, describe it and give acess to it, according to international standards. We provide readers with information and assist them in using it. We provide writers with a publishing environment. We learn students to use and judge scientific information.

Computer Networks and Connectivity

TCPIP local network. Internet connectivity via SURF.

Library Automation

Mostly Linux on Intel. apache, PHP, Perl, Java, C.
Still using MPEiX on Hp3000 and Windows xp on some servers
Oracle as DBMS
Locally developed Library Content Management Sytem.
Collexis, ERL, Metalib, SFX, EZProxy

Union Catalog

a.Software used:
Software used: Our catalogue is a union catalogue of a network of life science libraries. Our union catalogue is part of the Dutch National Union Catalogue. Holding information is synchronized with the National system in real time.

Digital Library

Based on your own production of digital documents: We have a repository of scientific publications of Wageningen UR. It is OAI-PMH compliant and developed within our Library Content Management System
b.If so, what is new in your digitalization programmes:
We are digitizing a collection of Nursery catalogues. A collection of world soil maps. A collection of Dutch soil maps.

Special webservice

Allowing users to add reviews and abstracts to any publication in any SFX enabled bibliography, starting with our repository.

Electronic document delivery

EDD is a part of the Library system. Book scanners communicate with the library system to update the Requests database and upload scanned PDF's. Users are autmatically mailed with a temporary URL to find a requested document.
